Stewarts Creek High School
Siegel High School
In their final regular season District game of the 2017 season, the Lady Red Hawks lost to the Lady Stars of Siegel HS by a score of 3-1. Siegel was able to take advantage of quality opportunities by scoring all 3 of their goals from within 8 yards of the Stewarts Creek goal.
Siegel opened the scoring in the 18th minute of the game when the Lady Red Hawks made the same defensive mistake that cost them over and over in the prior game against each other by allowing a Lady Stars attacker to sneak in unmarked and tap in a finish at the back post off a well played cross from the right corner. After some changes, the Lady Red Hawks defense tightened up and kept the score 1-0 until halftime. Stewarts Creek outshot Siegel 7-6 in the first half.
In the 2nd half Siegel scored early, in the 45th minute, when Tayler Crutcher was shoved out of the way from her perfectly played defensive position by the Siegel attacker, who then finished her 1v1 attempt against the keeper. It was a very disappointing moment for the team considering how well the play had been defended and the referee refused to call back an obvious foul that would decide the game. Siegel’s 3rd goal, in the 55th minute, was a very nice put back goal after a rebounded corner attempt that came back into play off the underside of the crossbar. Stewarts Creek did score a score of their own in the 78th minute when Dakota Mitchell played her sister Delaney up the right side of the field where Delaney beat a hard charging keeper with an early shot up and over, into the right corner of goal. In the 2nd half Stewarts Creek outshot Siegel 11-8, but only 1 was on target while 7 of Siegel’s were on frame.
